Important Mask Updates and W. 100th Street Entrance

Dear Parents,

As you know, the city has changed the mask and vaccine mandates. Many of our contemporary organizations are also making changes in line with the city’s guidance. Please see the important updates below regarding Discovery’s policies.  We understand that some families and children will need time to adjust to these changes and may think the changes are too soon, while others will feel relieved to unmask. We are here to support your family and children as we go through these changes together.

As of now, our vaccine requirement remains in effect for those that are age 5 and older including for staff and all parents/caregivers that enter Discovery Programs.

New Covid-19 Protocol Changes Starting Monday, March 7th

  • Masks will be worn upon entry to the building by all students over age 2 and all staff, parents, and caregivers as the lobby is a shared space with other schools; masks will be worn in the Discovery lobby during all afternoon transitions
  • Masks are required for children over age 2 and younger than age 5 who are not fully vaccinated including for the staff, parents, and caregivers that are in those classes; we will continue to evaluate this policy
  • Masks are optional for fully vaccinated students ages 5 and older and staff once in class except for all karate classes. We will email karate families separately. Please note that all 3:40 gymnasts on Tuesday and Wednesday will remain masked through the gym warm-up and then may unmask if they are fully vaccinated when they split into their individual groups because this is a mixed age warm-up that includes children under age 5
  • Masks must be worn when a class or individual is exposed to Covid-19

100th Street Entrance Open

On another note, the West 100th St. side of the lobby is now open starting tomorrow, March 7th.  All entry will be on W. 100th St. Please line up along the ramp side and brick wall heading towards West End Avenue. The stairs side of the entry is used by Morningside Montessori.  Drop off/Pick up continues to be outside.
