Dear Parents,
Welcome to the Fall Semester and our first edition of The Spark for the 24-25 school year. This issue is always a fun one because we are highlighting our staff and a fun fact about them. We will send the rest of the staff highlights in October. It’s a great way to get to know the staff a little more. We recognize that an integral part of why you choose our classes is the connection you and your children have with our teachers.
The semester is off to a smooth start and the children are more adjusted to the routines. There were less tears this week for some of our youngest students that are taking classes for the first time. Our older students are already making great strides in their skills and steps.
I’d like to point out the holiday closings listed at the top of the email. We won’t see some of you in October, but we look forward to continuing again soon. I hope your children have had a great first few weeks.
Warm Wishes,
Katie Kheel

“This summer, I traveled with gymnastics team members to Orlando, Florida to represent Discovery at the USAIGC World Championships. The team participated in competitions with four countries and numerous states throughout the US.
I also enjoyed many trips to the Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Garden and Rye Playland with my nieces.”

“When I was little, I wanted to learn ballet so badly because my older sister did it, but there were no classes for my age. I remember asking my sister to teach me and so every time she came home from ballet, she would go straight to turn on her one classical ballet CD. We would stand at the edge of my bed, using the bed frame as a barre, and she would teach me everything she did in her class that day.”

“I promised my daughter when she was 3 that I would take her to the top of the Eiffel Tower for dinner. I fulfilled my promise this summer, 17 years later. We had the best time ever! It’s never too late to fulfill a promise.”

“My favorite Halloween costume as a child was Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I used a stuffed dog as Toto, but when my younger sister dressed up as Dorothy years later, she got to pretend our pet dog was Toto and went trick-or-treating with him.”

“This summer, I went to Japan for two months with my son to see my family and traveled Vietnam and Korea.”

“A fun Discovery memory I have is being able to watch the Olympics this summer with all of the gymnastics campers! That was really special to be able to share this moment with them, as I remember watching the 2008 Olympics at my gymnastics center. Being able to witness history with the gymnasts I teach was a lifelong memory.”

“This summer, besides running camp for 235 campers with the rest of the staff, I traveled to Cape Cod with my daughter, Sabrina, and my family and got to spend time with my new nephew! I also traveled to upstate New York and enjoyed fresh air, yummy food and cute shops with Sabrina and my dog, Gracie.”
